The Guberif Has Made a Comeback



As of May 1st, the start of Wildfire Awareness Month, the Guberif is back! He is already making appearances around the state. You might see him on a billboard or poster. You may even see his name painted on a parking lot or roadway. Let us know if you spot him in Idaho!

The Guberif (Firebug spelled backwards)is Idaho's own fire prevention icon. This notorious character was created in the 1940's and was known for accidentally setting wildfires. His example was used to teach people about what not to do when recreating in Idaho's wildlands. We saw it at Ponderosa state park in McCall! It sparked some curiosity and so we googled it. Very catchy way and a great idea!
